Bhutan’s national carrier, Druk Air, and Bhutan Airlines both provide international flights into Bhutan’s international airport located in Paro, about one and a half hours drive from Thimphu.

Druk Air flies in and out of Bhutan from:

    Bhutan Airlines began its international operations in October 2013. It’s sectors to Bhutan include:

      Druk Air also operates domestic flights within Bhutan. The flights takes place between Paro and Bathpalathang (Bumthang). This air link will provide an excellent opportunity for those wanting to explore the western and eastern districts of Bhutan without the lengthy drive times.Druk Air also operates a service to Gelephu in the South from Paro. This flight takes place every Tuesday.

      If you wish to travel overland, you can enter and exit Bhutan through its southern gateway of Phuentsholing into the Indian state of West Bengal. It is approximately a five hour drive from Thimphu. The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, located approximately four hours by road from Phuentsholing. This border point is an ideal junction for those wishing to combine their exploration of Bhutan with the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal.

      For those who would like to journey across Bhutan, there is an exit only border crossing at Sumdrup Jongkhar in southeast Bhutan to India. The closest airport is 110 km away in Guwahati. From here you a number of destinations you can fly on to including Delhi, Bombay, Kolkata and Bangkok. This is convenient for those flying into Paro in the west and touring across Bhutan without back tracking.




Visas are required for travelling to Bhutan. No foreign mission/embassy abroad grants tourist visas for Bhutan. Visas are processed through the local tour operator such as Jakar Village Holidays in conjunction with the tour booking.
We will apply for your Bhutan visa after the full tour payment is received and will require the following:

  • Scanned Passport Copy (pg w/pic & details) sent via email. Your photo must be clear.
  • Your passport should be valid for at least 6 month after your planned date of departure from Bhutan.


    • Visa applications are cleared in advance, and a visa clearance doc will be forwarded to you. The visa clearance doc is required at the border Immigration Check Points at Phuntsholing & Samdrup Jongkhar & Gelephu.
    • On arrival at the border town Immigration Check Points at Phuntsholing & Samdrup Jongkhar & Gelephu, the Actual visa is stamped on your passport.
    • Passport size photo is NOT required..
    • Finger prints and photos will be taken at the at border town Immigration Check Points at Phuntsholing & Samdrup Jongkhar
  • Please make sure to travel with the same passsport on which the Bhutan visa was issued. We will not be held responsible if the passport on which the visa was issued does not match the passport used to travel to Bhutan. In such an event, you will not be allowed to board the flight or enter Bhutan at the border towns.


Please make sure you have the necessary visas & documents required for other countries that you may transit through or visit before/after Bhutan

Visitors may only experience Bhutan on an all-inclusive package tour for which a fixed daily tariff is set by the Royal Government / Tourism Council of Bhutan.
